Is your name easy to remember?

All of my future paintings will be signed Linda Lee Hodge and I will tell you why. I recently attended a workshop in Kentucky with a wonderful artist. One of his many suggestions for a professional artist is to have a name people can remember.

I put a lot of thought into it, and then I made a decision. I have family members that have a catchier name than mine or grandparents that I could use but I was named after my dad's initials L L Davis same as his brother, so I'm going to keep L L (Linda Lee Hodge)

Today is a good day to tell you this being Veterans Day. My Dad and his brother were both in World War II. I never met my Uncle as he was killed in the war. My Dad was a medic and was there the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed. I keep my name in honor of them, whether it may be memorable or not.

My deepest thanks to all the sacrifices made by all veterans. I am forever indebted.

Ross Farm

This piece is done in pen and ink. This is a memorable piece for the family. The barn in which they grew up, their dad's tractor and air compressor.  It is important to be meticulous because I am not allowed to make any mistakes when using a pen as it cannot be corrected. A lot of people like artwork in black and white. As you can see here, black and white shows all the details and the wood grain in the barn.

This is an 11x14" pen and ink on water color paper for a Private Collector. THANK YOU

Happy

This is one more painting in a series of "Happy". He loved watching out the window for squirrels. In this painting I have two different light sources to work with. One is from the window and  the other is the lamp. The brightness is different from the two. This made for an interesting piece.

This painting is done on and 8x10" canvas panel and goes to a Private Collector.
THANK YOU very much. As always, I enjoy receiving your comments.

Caesar

Caesar was a caged kitty and only knew the cage. He was given freedom to be a kitty at his new home and family. He is a lover, but only when he is not outside. Caesar is a fantastic mouser. His family adore him and get a kick out of watching him sit in this position, which he does for hours... sometimes falling asleep this way.

This painting is done in Acrylic on an 8x10" canvas panel and goes to a private Collector.
THANK YOU very much. I always enjoy receiving your comments.

Buddy

Buddy Bokshan is a 155 lb. English Mastiff. He is 6 years old and bred in SW Missouri. He was the first dog that the owners had ever purchased on line. His face is what sold him.
He has a beautiful gentle face.

Buddy is the number two preferred English Mastiff in the Country through the National American Kennel Club in 2013.
Only top five of each breed are invited to the National American Kennel Club Event. Good going         Buddy !!!!! He does agility... going through tunnels, over jumps, bending in and out of poles, etc.

His blue eyes attract a lot of attention as does his beautiful face. We swear he knows he is handsome.

This is a 5x7" painting in acrylic on a canvas panel with a blended acrylic panel behind. For a beautiful painting of your pet, contact me at Lhartworks@aol.com

Happer Doodles

Happy, also know as Happer Doodles (very cute nick name)

Sometimes animals have losses or difficult times in their lives too. In Happy's case, as you read in the last blog must have been part of god's plan. Finding Happy was a miracle to his new owners. He opened and touched their hearts at a time that helped them. Just the trip back to Michigan from Florida was a real adventure. Though Happer Doodles has passed on, his purpose here was very important.

I am grateful to have been able to paint Happy and know that my paintings will bring some joy to his family. THANK YOU

Both paintings are done in acrylic on 5x7" canvas with blended canvas panels attached behind making a total of 8x10"

"Happy"

This little kitten was a farrow cat in Florida. Food was put out for the family of cats and at some point the mother came up missing. So when searching  for the mother, she was found dead. This little kitten was the first to come walking down the road. The wonderful people who adopted him; named him Happy and he was given this little bunny rabbit so he could have a buddy and keep him company, which you can see he cherished. Happy is about 5 weeks old here.

This is an acrylic painting on a 5 x 7" canvas with an acrylic painted boarder. Follow along in the next coming weeks and you will see a few more paintings of Happy as he grows up to a large cat. This painting goes to a private collector. THANK YOU

Sarah

This little Pug named Sarah is a six year old very sweet and wonderful companion. You can see that in her eyes. She is a little lover girl.  However I am told she has a wild streak and mysterious. Bit on the spoiled side like most of our companions.

This is a portrait drawing in graphite and charcoal, 6 x 8". If you like the black and white art work, contact me for more information. Now is the time to be planning Christmas gifts in order to have them finished. Lhartworks@aol.com
This portrait goes to a private collector. Thank you, and thanks to all for following my artwork.

Frankie

Frankie's affections, like a lot of cats are on his terms. He had a tumultuous life before he came to his now wonderful owner and now he has found his solitude. His owner loving accepts all his little idiosyncrasies . He is the kind of cat you would not expect to be affectionate, but has moments that he needs affection. He does go and visit his two neighbors regularly and when they haven't seen him, they come and check on him.

In this 5 x 7" painting on canvas, I wanted the main focus to be on his eye, so the most detail is there while everything else is soften. This is done in Acrylic's and goes to a private collector. Thank you

Pumpkin

This is the completed painting that I started in Shelby Township when I was invited to do a presentation for other artists. This is Mr. Pumpkin, also sometimes know as Payne from my husband because he likes to be involved in every thing you do. If the golf cart comes out, he wants to go for a ride. If you are working on a tractor, he is practically on your head seeing what you are doing. If you are chipping golf balls, he is trying to grab the golf club. He is a people cat.

Pumpkin's feet are an expression of his personality, stretching his toes, reaching for more in life.

This is a painting in acrylic on 11 x 14" canvas panel. For interest in this or other paintings, contact me at Lhartworks@aol.com

Toby

Toby is painted in acrylic on Porcelain and wrapped in Sterling Silver. He is a great traveling buddy. Kind of makes me think he has his business suit on and ready to go to work. Before he head out the door in the morning he gets his teeth brushed so he is ready for the day.

Toby is great company, doesn't shed, and loves his squeaky toy's. He is very intelligent and ready to learn something new anytime. He is a Cocker Spaniel and Papillion mix.
This pendant goes to a private collector. Thank you

Casey

Casey's owner used to shake her head at those of us who pampered our dogs. Now,  she said she has to apologize. After adopting Casey who has changed their world with his personality, energy, and unconditional love for his family, he can be considered pampered as well. When visitors come to visit he does not like to see them leave.

Casey is painted in Acrylic on an 8 x 10' canvas. As you might guess, this painting goes to a private collection. Thank you

We are guessing Casey is a Shih Tzu mix. If you may have a different idea of his breed, just send me an email at Lhartworks@aol.com and give your opinion

Cassandra

This pendant ( approximately 2 1/5 by 1 1/2" in size) is a miniature portrait of Cassy, and wrapped in gold. Cassy is short for Cassandra. She is a Maine Coon cat.  Not overweight, but weighs 18 pounds and 37" long Maine Coons are called the "Gentle Giant of cats".

Cassy sits up and begs like a dog. She has a good nose like a dog. If any food starts to smoke under the broiler while cooking, she  cries  very loud, like a warning. I would love to paint a full portrait of Cassy sometime to show her entire beautiful body.

This pendant goes to a private collector, Thank you
If you would like a custom pendant of your pet, you may contact me at Lhartworks@aol.com

Cookie

This is one of my latest paintings of a beautiful Brittany Spaniel named Cookie. She was a special, playful, loving, silly, fun family member who is missed dearly. Painted in Acrylic on  6 x 8" Masonite prepared for museum quality. I  think the colors in this painting, compliment each other beautifully. This painting goes to a private collector. Thank you.
